Introduction

The department came into being in the year 2012 with the start of the College of Paramedical Sciences. Initially, Diploma in Optometry was started from 2012-13 session and later on in the year 2013-14, Bachelor of Optometry was commenced for upliftment of the education of Optometry

Various Specialized Labs of the Department:

  • Refraction:
    Fully equipped with refraction units, Keratometer & Lensometer, Retinoscope, Ophthalmoscope and model eyes for the practice of retinoscopy and other important objective and subjective refraction techniques by the students.
  • Contact lens cum Ocular Prosthesis Lab:
    The Lab has been established with the purpose of teaching clinical pearls of contact lens fitting and assessment. In addition to this, the lab has a section for teaching the basics of ocular prosthesis fabrication and its dispensing.
  • Vision- Therapy Lab:
    Vision therapy lab is fully functional having all the necessary equipments which are boon for the children and patients requiring therapies in order to gain standard vision in conditions like Amblyopia, suppression, Pre & Post strabismic surgeries.
  • Low Vision Lab:
    Low vision has become a problem of concern. The lab has been set-up to clinically examine and manage and even rehabilitate patients with low vision with the help of Low Vision Devices. This lab is going to be beneficial for the optometry students and provides a great opportunity to gain expertise in the specialty of low vision with proper hands-on.
  • Optical Lens Manufacturing & Dispensing Optics Lab:
    This lab has a purpose of teaching the basics of lens manufacturing which includes lens grinding, smoothing & polishing, etc. Also, lab has been prepared with a motive to give ample exposure as well as training to the students in the art of lens edging & fitting as well as dispensing optics essentials.
  • Research Lab:
    The Lab is fully equipped with the latest research equipment for the teaching and training of the Master of Optometry course (Proposed) students.
